Electronic Audio Experiments Citadel
The Electronic Audio Experiments Citadel is a preamp-style overdrive pedal that draws inspiration from the timeless sounds of British amplifiers from the 1960s and 1970s. Instead of emulating a particular model, the Citadel incorporates the best aspects of an entire generation of amps, from warm piano-like cleans to bright and clear overdrive to sizzling lead tones.
Initially, the Citadel began as a series of experiments on the Model feT pedal, with ample opportunities for modifications, much like any tube amp. The original Model T was a modified version of the Super Bass sound, delivering a distinct plexi flavor with fuzzy breakup and a massive low-frequency punch. However, the Citadel takes a different approach, with a sparkly midrange focus that trades low-end sludge for a unique sound that's all its own. In a sense, it's a re-plexi-fied Model T sound, but with an individual flavor that sets it apart. Alternatively, you could think of it as a modified version of the original Model T, taking it in a new direction while retaining the core of what made it great.
Finally, like our Model feT, the Citadel emulates both the preamp and power amp sections of a tube amp to provide a full-bodied overdrive that feels powerful and responds wonderfully to boosts, drives, and fuzzes in front. It can be used either a conventional drive pedal or as the workhorse of an ampless signal chain.
